Personal Blog 1 Britany Maher

When you have lived somewhere for a long time, you often don’t realize its true potential. Salt Lake City is completely unique and it makes for an amazing tourist attraction for people all around the world. They come to see temple square, to ski or snowboard in the greatest snow on earth, to visit the great salt lake and the Bonneville salt flats, to see the Kennecott copper mine, capital theatre, genealogy center, miller sports park, and so much more. There are many things to see and visit in salt lake, but first you need to decide where you are going to stay. I visited two different hotels of different price ranges to show the variety of people who will come to salt lake for my two blogs.

First, I went to the Grand America which is arguably the most elegant hotel in Salt Lake City. It is Salt Lakes only AAA five diamond hotel. It is set against the beautiful backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains and has a beautiful view in almost every room. The Grand America is a tribute to old Europe and it is extraordinary how beautiful it is. The guest rooms are designed in a French style, with plush carpets, lavish fabrics, fine art and beautiful furniture. As you walk in to the lobby you are overwhelmed with fine furniture and chandeliers. Everything is extremely detailed and flows together really well. Just to make the point on how luxurious this hotel is, when you go to book your room they offer an option of a dozen red roses or a bouquet of fresh seasonal flowers to be placed in your suite.

I had trouble getting anyone to talk to me, probably because I was in sweats and a t-shirt and did not look like their average clientele, I did not fit in to the flow of visitors that were coming and going as I wandered around. I did not feel entirely welcome, but I noticed that the visitors were treated with great respect. The majority of the people I saw appeared to be business men or couples, I only saw a couple of children and they were very well-behaved.

On their website they brag that all of their furniture is “handcrafted Richelieu furniture”, all of their rooms contain original works of art, inviting balconies, and large Italian marble bathrooms. “Floor-to-ceiling windows showcase breathtaking views of mountain ranges our beautifully landscaped parterre gardens”. It is defiantly an amazing hotel and will leave a lasting impression on anyone who stays there. Rates start at 300 dollars per night and go up from there. This hotel gives a great first impression of Salt Lake for visiters. The attention to detail and the beautifulviews are overwhelming and though it is not very welcoming to those who are not actually staying at the hotel, it was a great experience and i would love to stay there someday. (All images were taken from the grand america website, my camera died part way through the walk about.)
