Pathways around campus
Of all the interesting aspects of campus I’ve come across: the unique landmarks, eclectic architecture, and beautiful foliage, my favorite is the existence of the side trails and worn out paths that can be seen all around campus. To me these trails are the most indicative aspects of who we are as students.
While the campus is built to be pedestrian friendly, most students will still choose short cuts over the marked out, paved paths. Over time these shortcuts became defined paths themselves, seen in worn out “roads” in the grass by Legacy Bridge or above the pavilion of the library. Personally, I take the paths across the grass because it’s a much quicker route to class. But it’s not only the speed which the paths offer, but also the chance to change things up and take a new route or see campus from a different perspective. I feel this holds true with most of the other students who use them (though I’m sure there are many other possible reasons), since the paths are anything but new.
Overall, the paths lend a human aspect to campus. They are the worn out routes from God knows how many previous students. And they continue to endure because of the many of us who choose to follow in those students’ footsteps.
