I'm glad that you went on a beautiful friday afternoon (albeit hot). I'm glad you saw the value in the diversity of the Sugarhouse farmers market. Sugarhouse has always been known for the diversity of their businesses along 21st South and 11th East. The historic building that was torn down (to make way for something new) contained several small, individually owned businesses, artsy and perhaps funky, but not at all the franchise businesses that we see everywhere and that aren't at all linked to a particular place or group of people. I have to believe franchise buildings don't contribute at all to the unique identity of a place nor do they create a sense of meaning, they are the elements of the Geography of Nowhere, as James Kunstler says, the cultural of mass materialism and consumerism.
